About

How this started

Ngisebhishi. Ngiyabhukuda is an independent creative studio and editorial platform exploring culture through stories, conversations, and collaboration. Through publishing, creative projects, and cultural documentation, it creates space for ideas, people, and moments that deserve to be experienced with care.

The Name

Ngisebhishi. Ngiyabhukuda

The name began as a joke — about always being somewhere else in your head, off in your own little world. Loosely translated into isiZulu slang, that became Ngisebhishi. Ngiyabhukuda: I'm at the beach, I'm swimming. It stuck because it described a state of mind rather than a fixed idea, which is exactly why it felt like the right name to build under — one that doesn't box things in, and can keep growing.

The Beginning

It started as a podcast

Ngisebhishi. Ngiyabhukuda started as a podcast — a space for real conversations and a community built around them. Storytelling and conversation are how it breaks down the things worth paying attention to: the spaces and worlds worth creating, contributing to, or exploring.

The Growth

Writing, alongside everything else

Over time, the podcast grew alongside a much longer-running thread of writing, and the two began to need the same home. That home had to hold both — a space to publish, and a space to work out what it actually means to build worlds and grow a community around the things worth caring about.

Issue 001

Where it's landed, for now

The publication and studio are where that gradual build-up has landed — not one single moment, but conversation by conversation, issue by issue.

What's Next

Still becoming itself

Going forward, Ngisebhishi. Ngiyabhukuda continues to grow as a space for exploration, documentation, and collaboration — everything in between that speaks to what it is, and what it's still becoming.
